Which purples are subtle? Lavender and light violet
Crystal Lavender Purple is a soft pearl purple with a wet shine. Light Violet Purple Metallic is a glossy lilac with fine flake that sparkles in direct sun. Pearl Purple sits one step deeper and moves between plum and lavender as the light changes.
The trade-off: pastel purples change more between sun and shade than dark ones. Check a sample outside before you buy a full roll.
Which purples read as plum or berry?
If you want a purple with some red in it, look here. Berry Purple Metallic sits between deep wine red and rich plum, almost black-cherry in shade. Rupee Purple Metallic is a jewel-toned purple with fine metal flake, and Venice Purple Metallic moves from moody plum to bright jewel tone in the sun.
The trade-off: red-leaning purples look very different from photo to photo, and the Rupee listing also sells a Rupee Red, so pick the right option at checkout.
Fine metal flake under a clear gloss topcoat. Air-release adhesive, dry or wet install.
Which purples look almost black?
Gentian Purple Metallic is a violet that leans blue and turns ink-like in the shade. Venice Purple also goes deep and moody out of the sun. If you want the darkest classic purple of all, that is Midnight Purple, which we cover in its own guide.
The trade-off: like any dark gloss color, deep purples show swirl marks and dust. Plan on hand washing.
Matte or satin purple: what are your options?
Metallic DBX Purple Matte is a dusty, smoky purple with no shine and a fine metallic flake that wakes up in direct light. Purple Matte is a flat, velvet-like purple with no flake. Both hide small swirls better than gloss, because the surface softens light instead of reflecting it. Our matte vs satin vs gloss guide explains how each finish lives day to day.
The trade-off: matte cannot be waxed or polished, and bird droppings need cleaning fast.
Matte, non-reflective purple with fine flake. 3.7 to 4.1 mil polymeric PVC, 6 m, 18 m and 23 m rolls.
Which purples are the loudest?
Liquid Metal Violet Purple is a deep purple with a bright, almost reflective metallic glow. Purple Matte Chrome gives you the depth of chrome with the glare turned down. White Purple Color-Shift reads pearl white head on and pulls into violet as you walk around the car.
The trade-off: chrome film is harder to install than standard gloss vinyl, so it suits an experienced installer.
A bright, almost reflective metallic violet that pops on every curve.
What cars come in purple from the factory?
Not many, which is why purple wraps are popular. Dodge released Plum Crazy (code FC7) in 1970 and later brought it back on anniversary Challenger Hellcats and Chargers, according to this Plum Crazy paint code history. Nissan offered Midnight Purple on the Skyline GT-R.
Most other models come in purple rarely or only as a special order. A wrap gets around that: you can put any of these 12 purples on any car and remove it later.
Frequently asked questions
What cars come in purple?
Factory purple is rare. Dodge offered Plum Crazy on the 1970 Challenger and brought it back on later Challengers and Chargers, and Nissan offered Midnight Purple on the Skyline GT-R. A purple vinyl wrap lets you put a similar shade on any car.
How much does it cost to wrap a car purple?
Purple film for a full small car costs $360 to $470 for one 18 m roll of the 12 picks above. A professional install usually brings the total to $2,500 to $5,000, according to HotCars, which cites J.D. Power.
Should I choose matte or gloss purple?
Gloss purple shows more color depth and is easier to clean. Matte purple looks more modern and hides small swirls, but it cannot be waxed. Both are the same kind of film underneath.
How much purple vinyl do I need?
A full small car typically needs around 18 m of 1.52 m wide film, and most sedans, coupes and SUVs are safer with 23 m. For accents like a roof or mirrors, a 6 m roll is enough.
Is there purple paint protection film?
Yes. Our purple collection includes 9 color PPFs, such as Metallic Venice Purple PPF. They are 7.5 mil self-healing TPU, from $260 for 3 m to $890 for 15 m.
