Wet Installation (Hood & Side Panels)

The hood and side panels can be applied using the wet installation method. Use lubricant sparingly, as excessive lubrication may leave visible adhesive marks. After the film is positioned, rinse all seams with clean water and dry them thoroughly, then finish the edges with heat.


Application Guidelines

  • Adding a defoaming agent reduces the adhesive tack of the film; therefore, do not apply it to groove seams, where reliable adhesion is essential.
  • When applying film over large flat panels, have multiple installers stretch and position the film in one synchronized pass. Repeated lifting during installation increases the risk of creasing and surface contamination.
  • Always remove the PET backing film first, followed by the PET protective film. If the installation cannot be completed within the same day, remove the protective pull tabs from the remaining film before pausing — trapped air can otherwise leave impressions on the film surface.
  • If the film has been stretched along the edges during installation, allow it to relax before heat-finishing. Sealing stretched edges prematurely may cause the film to lift or curl after installation.
  • Use a coated black blade when trimming TPU color-change film, as standard blades are more likely to scratch the film surface.

Curing Period

For the first week following installation, avoid washing the vehicle or driving at sustained high speeds. This allows the adhesive to fully cure and any residual moisture beneath the film to evaporate completely.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Do not direct high-pressure water or abrasive brushes at the film seams. For routine cleaning, use a pH-neutral car wash solution applied with a soft sponge or chamois.

Parking

Avoid prolonged parking near kitchen exhaust vents or beneath trees, where grease residue, bird droppings, or tree sap may come into contact with the film.

1. What are the differences between Color TPU PPF and normal color-changing vinyl wrap?

Normal color-changing vinyl are mostly made of PVC, providing only color coverage but lacking protective functions and prone to fading and cracking. Color TPU PPF uses imported TPU metallic. It also possesses core PPF protective functions such as scratch self-healing, anti-yellowing, and hydrophobic and stain-resistant properties.
2. How long is the warranty period for TPU PPF?

Under normal usage conditions, Color TPU PPF can maintain color stability for 5-10 years.
3. What does "self-healing" mean?

Self-healing refers to the ability of heating (such as sunlight or hot water) to accelerate the repair process of minor scratches on the membrane surface (e.g., car wash marks, light abrasions).
4. Will it damage the original paint?

No. Color TPU PPF uses removable adhesive technology; professional installation shops use a heat gun to assist in peeling it off.
5. How to clean and maintain it daily?

① Regular car washing is sufficient; avoid direct high-pressure water jets onto the membrane edges. ② It is recommended to use a dedicated maintenance agent every quarter to activate the hydrophobic properties. ③ Avoid prolonged contact with strong alkalis and solvents. ④ Bird droppings and insect residue should be cleaned promptly; professional cleaning agents can be used for treatment.
6. Can I wax after applying the car wraps?

Not recommended. The Color TPU PPF surface already has a hydrophobic and stain-resistant coating, so waxing is not only unnecessary, but the abrasive components in wax may actually affect the coating's performance. If you need to enhance the shine, it is recommended to use a maintenance spray specifically designed for TPU films.
