Nardo Grey Wrap: Gloss or Matte, and How It Compares to the Audi Paint
A nardo grey wrap is a gloss grey vinyl that copies Audi's Nardo Gray, the flat, non-metallic grey Audi first offered on the 2013 RS 7 Sportback. Wrapteck sells two Nardo films, from $150 for a 6 m roll, and most small cars need about 18 m. There is no matte Nardo in our range, but close matte greys exist.
Nardo is the grey people ask about by name. You saw it on an RS model, you want it on your BMW, Tesla or Mustang, and you do not want a respray you cannot undo. This guide covers what the Audi color really is, which of our two films gets closest, what to buy if you want it matte, and what the film costs.
Key facts
- Audi's Nardo Gray is a solid, non-metallic medium grey with a hint of blue, named after the Nardo test track in southern Italy.
- Wrapteck sells 2 Nardo films: Nardo Dark Grey Gloss from $150 and Dark Nardo Gray Super Gloss (light or dark shade) from $180.
- Both are polymeric PVC vinyl with a 3.7 to 4.1 mil face film and a Henkel air-release adhesive, for dry or wet install.
- Rolls are 1.52 m (5 ft) wide in 6 m, 18 m and 23 m lengths. An 18 m roll costs $420 or $450.
- Both Nardo films are gloss, like the Audi paint. For a flat look, our grey collection holds 60 films, including matte greys.
- Our films block 95 to 98% of UV and come off factory paint with heat when you want a change.

What color is Nardo grey?
Nardo Gray is an Audi factory paint. It arrived in 2013 on the RS 7 Sportback, first as an RS-only option, and later spread to other Audi models. Audi paint histories describe it as a flat, non-metallic, medium-tone grey with hints of blue, named for the color of the asphalt at the Nardo test track in southern Italy.
"Flat" here means solid color, not matte. The Audi paint has a normal glossy clear coat. There is simply no metallic flake in it, which is why it looks so clean and modern. The same source notes Nardo is hard to color match in body shop repairs, because it has no flake to hide small differences.
Audi is not the only brand using it now. The paint database carpaints.co lists Nardo Grey under Audi code LY7C and shows other makers offering it or releasing similar greys. On film, anyone can have it.
Which Nardo grey wrap should you choose?
We make two Nardo films, and the difference is mostly shade and price. Both are gloss, both use the same face film and adhesive, and both can go on dry or wet.
| Nardo Dark Grey Gloss | Dark Nardo Gray Super Gloss | |
|---|---|---|
| Shades | Nardo Dark Grey | Light Nardo Grey or Dark Nardo Gray |
| Look | Deeper take, almost charcoal in daylight | Charcoal in shade, cool slate in direct sun |
| Finish | Gloss | Gloss |
| Face film | 3.7 to 4.1 mil polymeric PVC | 3.7 to 4.1 mil polymeric PVC |
| Adhesive | Henkel solvent-based acrylic, air-release | Henkel solvent-based acrylic, air-release |
| 6 m / 18 m / 23 m | $150 / $420 / $540 | $180 / $450 / $570 |
Pick Nardo Dark Grey Gloss if you want the moodier, darker version and the lowest price. Pick Dark Nardo Gray Super Gloss if you want to choose between a lighter and a darker Nardo. The Audi paint is a medium grey, so check both shades on a swatch before you order.
The darker, moodier Nardo. Hides road grime better than true black.
Choose Light Nardo Grey or Dark Nardo Gray. Wet, painted-on depth.
Nardo grey wrap: gloss or matte?
Audi's Nardo is a gloss paint, and both of our Nardo films are gloss too. That is the true Nardo look. People still search for "nardo grey wrap matte" because a flat grey looks so good on sharp body lines. We do not sell a matte Nardo, and we will not pretend a different grey is one. These are the closest flat greys we make:
- Ceramic Stone Grey Matte: a calm stone grey with a dead flat finish, from $170. It is warmer than Nardo.
- Metallic Dark Grey Matte: flat and darker, with a fine metallic fleck, from $190.
Matte greys need gentler care than gloss. Skip wax and polish, and hand wash with products made for matte film. If you are unsure, our guide to matte vs satin vs gloss wrap finishes lays out the trade-offs, and the full grey collection has 60 films to compare.
Nardo grey vs cement grey: what is the difference?
This is one of the most common Nardo comparisons, and the two are close cousins. Nardo is a medium grey with a blue hint. Our Cement Grey films read cooler and more industrial, between soft silver and charcoal. Both are solid greys with no flake, and both come in gloss.
If you like Nardo but want something a little different from every other grey car, Cement Grey Super Gloss comes in Light Cement Grey or Cement Grey from $180. Put a Nardo sample and a Cement sample side by side in daylight before you choose. On a screen they look almost identical. On a car they do not.
A cooler, more industrial solid grey. Light or regular shade.
Nardo grey wrap vs paint: which makes more sense?
Paint is permanent, and Nardo is known as a hard color to match in repairs. A wrap is the opposite. The film lays over your factory paint, takes the daily wear, and comes back off when you sell the car or want a new color.
For the film, a small car usually needs one 18 m roll, which is $420 for Nardo Dark Grey Gloss or $450 for Dark Nardo Gray Super Gloss. Sedans and mid-size SUVs are safer with 23 m, and full-size trucks need 30 to 40 m. Shop labor is extra if you do not install it yourself. We break down both routes in how much it costs to wrap a car, and there are more shades to compare in our car wrap colors guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nardo grey metallic?
No. Audi Nardo Gray is a solid, non-metallic paint with a gloss clear coat. Our two Nardo films match that: both are gloss with no metallic flake.
Is Nardo grey exclusive to Audi?
Audi introduced it on the 2013 RS 7 Sportback, but it is no longer Audi only. Paint databases list other brands offering Nardo or very similar greys, and on vinyl any car can wear it.
How much does a Nardo grey wrap cost?
The film for a small car is usually one 18 m roll: $420 for Nardo Dark Grey Gloss or $450 for Dark Nardo Gray Super Gloss. A 6 m roll for a hood, roof or mirrors starts at $150. Shop labor is extra if you hire an installer.
Is there a matte Nardo grey wrap?
Not from us. Both of our Nardo films are gloss, like the Audi paint. For a flat grey, look at Ceramic Stone Grey Matte or Metallic Dark Grey Matte in our grey collection.
Is Nardo grey hard to keep clean?
Less than black. Our Nardo Dark Grey Gloss page notes it hides road grime better than a true black, and gloss film washes like paint. Hand washing still keeps it looking best.
