Space Grey Metallic Car Wrap | Car Vinyl

Space Grey sits in that perfect spot between cool slate and deep graphite. In the shade it reads as a calm, moody grey with serious depth. Pull into direct sun and the fine metal flake wakes up, scattering tiny points of light across the panels so the whole car looks like it has been dipped in liquid metal. It is the kind of grey that looks expensive without shouting about it.
This is a gloss metallic color-change wrap, so the surface stays slick and reflective while the flake does the sparkle work underneath. It lays over your existing paint and seals it off from sun, light scratches, road grime, and the small daily wear that dulls a finish over time. When you want to go back to factory, it peels away and leaves the paint you started with.

Key features
- Deep metallic sparkle: fine metal flake runs through the color layer, so the finish reads rich in the shade and glints with sparkle in direct sun.
- Glossy depth: a clear topcoat over the flake gives a wet, glossy shine with real depth, the same look factory metallic paint gets from flake in the basecoat.
- Air-release adhesive: built-in air channels push bubbles out, so the film lays flat and you can reposition as you work.
- Conforms to curves: the polymeric PVC stretches over mirrors, bumpers and body lines for a smooth, seamless wrap.
- Protects the paint underneath: the wrap takes the daily wear while your factory paint stays sealed and original.
- Removable: peels off cleanly later with heat, so you can change the look or go back to stock.

Frequently asked questions
What does the metal flake actually do to the color?
It adds depth and movement. Plain grey paint looks flat, but Space Grey has fine metal flake suspended in the color layer. That flake catches light from different angles, so the panel shifts from a deep cool grey in shade to a bright sparkling grey in the sun. It reads differently as you walk around the car, which is the whole appeal of a metallic finish.
Does it look different in sun versus shade?
Yes, and that is the point. Under cloud cover or in a garage, Space Grey looks like a rich, slightly cool charcoal grey. Step into direct sunlight and the flake lights up, giving the surface a fine sparkle and a brighter, more dimensional grey. Same wrap, two different moods depending on the light.
Is the surface textured or smooth?
It is smooth. The metal flake lives inside the color layer, not on top, so the gloss finish stays slick to the touch. You get the sparkle of metallic with a clean glossy surface, the same way a factory metallic paint job feels smooth even though it has flake in it.
Will wrapping hurt my paint or actually protect it?
It protects it. The vinyl sits on top of your factory paint and shields it from UV fading, light scratches, bird droppings, and everyday road grime. As long as your paint is healthy and properly cleaned before install, the wrap guards the surface underneath the whole time it is on.
How is this different from a metallic respray?
A real metallic-flake respray is expensive, takes the car off the road for a long stretch, and is hard to repair or color match if a panel gets damaged. This wrap gives you a metallic Space Grey finish for far less, goes on much faster, protects your original paint instead of removing it, and comes off cleanly when you want a change. A respray is permanent. This is reversible.
How do I wash and care for it?
Treat it like a quality paint finish. Hand wash with a pH neutral soap, rinse well, and dry with a soft microfiber towel to keep the gloss sharp. Skip harsh brushes and abrasive polishes. Keeping it clean and parked in shade or a garage when you can will help the metallic Space Grey hold its depth and last for years.
Can I install it myself?
Many DIY installers do. The film uses a Henkel solvent based acrylic adhesive with air-release channels, so trapped bubbles can be pushed out as you lay it down, and it works for both dry and wet installs. Flat and gently curved panels are very doable at home with patience and a heat gun. Deep curves and recesses take more practice, so a full vehicle is easier in pairs.
How much film do I need for my car?
It depends on the size and shape of your vehicle. The roll comes in 30ft (9m) and 59ft (18m) lengths. A small car or partial wrap like a roof or hood can work with the shorter roll, while a full sedan or SUV usually needs the longer length plus a little extra for mistakes and complex areas. When in doubt, size up so you are not short mid project.
