Space Grey Metallic Car Wrap | Gloss Vinyl

Space Grey lands right between dark slate and soft graphite, and the fine metal flake in the color layer is what makes it move. In shade it reads as a deep, moody grey with a clean gloss shine. Roll into direct sun and the flake wakes up, scattering tiny sparkles across every panel so the car looks like it was sprayed with real metallic paint. It is the kind of grey that looks expensive without shouting.
This is a color-change vinyl, so it wraps over your existing paint and seals it from sun, light scratches, road grime, and the small dings of daily driving. Your factory finish stays clean underneath while the Space Grey gloss takes the wear. When you want a different look later, the wrap comes off and the original paint is still there.

Key features
- Deep metallic sparkle: fine metal flake runs through the color layer, so the finish reads rich in the shade and glints with sparkle in direct sun.
- Glossy depth: a clear topcoat over the flake gives a wet, glossy shine with real depth, the same look factory metallic paint gets from flake in the basecoat.
- Air-release adhesive: built-in air channels push bubbles out, so the film lays flat and you can reposition as you work.
- Conforms to curves: the polymeric PVC stretches over mirrors, bumpers and body lines for a smooth, seamless wrap.
- Protects the paint underneath: the wrap takes the daily wear while your factory paint stays sealed and original.
- Removable: peels off cleanly later with heat, so you can change the look or go back to stock.

Frequently asked questions
What does the metallic flake do and how does it look in sun versus shade?
The flake sits inside the color layer, so the Space Grey shifts with the light. In shade or overcast weather it stays a deep, even grey with a glossy shine. In direct sun the tiny metal particles catch the light and sparkle, giving the panels real depth and that sprayed-metallic look. Same wrap, two different moods depending on where the car sits.
Does the wrap have a rough texture or is it smooth?
It is smooth to the touch. The sparkle comes from the metal flake suspended inside the film, not from a textured surface. Run your hand across a finished panel and you feel a flat, glossy face, the same as you would on a glossy painted car.
Will wrapping my car damage the paint or actually protect it?
On factory paint in good condition it protects rather than harms. The Space Grey vinyl shields your original finish from UV, light scratches, and daily road grime while it stays on. The Henkel solvent-based acrylic air-release adhesive is built to come off cleanly later. Paint that is already chipping, cracked, or repainted with weak adhesion is the only thing to watch, since lifting the film could lift loose paint with it.
How is a metallic wrap different from a custom metallic respray?
A real metallic-flake respray is one of the priciest paint jobs you can order, it takes days in a booth, and a single scuff is hard and costly to fix. This Space Grey wrap gives you that flake-in-the-light effect for a fraction of the price, goes on far faster, and protects the paint underneath instead of replacing it. If you want to change color or sell the car, the wrap peels off. Paint does not.
How do I wash and care for the Space Grey metallic finish?
Hand washing is best. Use a soft mitt with a pH-neutral car shampoo, rinse well, and dry with a clean microfiber towel to avoid water spots on the gloss. Skip harsh solvents and aggressive automatic brushes. Clear bug splatter and bird droppings quickly so they do not sit on the film. Parking in a garage or shade keeps the flake bright and helps the wrap last longer.
Can I install this myself with the air-release adhesive?
Yes, many DIY installers do. The air-release adhesive has channels that let trapped air escape as you squeegee, so you get fewer bubbles and can reposition while you work. It supports both dry and wet installs. Flat and gently curved panels are very doable at home. Deep recesses and mirrors take more patience, so take your time and use gentle heat to shape the film.
Does the wrap remove cleanly when I want it off?
When you are ready for a change, the film is designed to peel away cleanly from sound factory paint. A little gentle heat softens the adhesive and helps it release without leaving heavy residue. Any light adhesive left behind wipes off with a proper adhesive remover, and your original paint is revealed underneath.
How much film do I need for my car?
It depends on vehicle size. The Space Grey wrap comes in 30ft (9m) and 59ft (18m) roll lengths. A small coupe or partial project usually fits the shorter roll, while a full wrap on a sedan, SUV, or truck typically needs the longer one. When in doubt, size up a little so you have extra for mistakes, recuts, and complex curves.
