The film is a holographic vinyl with an iridescent laser finish baked into it. As the angle between you, the light and the surface changes, that layer scatters light into different colors. So just moving around the car, or the sun shifting through the day, makes the rainbow shimmer move across the matte black base. Nothing electronic, it is the structure of the film doing it.

The base reads as a deep matte black in low light or when you look straight on. As light catches it at an angle you get a laser-style rainbow flash, mostly greens, blues, pinks and golds rolling over that dark base. It looks stealthy and almost black in shade and full of color in direct sun or under bright lights.

It protects it. The wrap sits on top of your factory paint and takes the daily dust, light scuffs and wash marks instead of the paint. When you peel it off later it lifts cleanly without leaving residue, and the original finish underneath is in the same shape you covered it in, often better since it was shielded.

A true color-flip paint job like this is one of the most expensive and difficult finishes a shop can spray, and any repair means re-blending the whole effect. This wrap gives you the same shifting rainbow look for a fraction of the cost, goes on faster, protects the paint you already have, and comes back off when you want to change it. A respray gives you none of that.

Hand wash only with a gentle car shampoo and a soft mitt, then rinse and pat dry. Never wax, polish or machine-buff a matte wrap. Those create permanent shiny spots and kill the even matte look. Skip automatic brush washes too. Keep it free of bird droppings and fuel spills and wipe those off quickly, and a garage-kept car will hold the finish longer.

Yes, plenty of DIY installers do. It is self-adhesive with an air-release backing, so it goes on dry and you push trapped air out to the edges instead of fighting bubbles. Take your time, work panel by panel, and use heat to help it lay into curves. Smaller flat panels like a roof, hood or mirrors are a good first project before a full car.

It does. The wrap is removable and lifts off without leaving adhesive residue behind when you are ready for a new look or want to go back to bare paint. Removing it slowly and with a little warmth makes the job easier and keeps the paint underneath clean.

It depends on the size of the vehicle and whether you are doing the full body or just accents. A small coupe needs far less than a large SUV or truck.
