Camo Car Wrap: 3D Ghost Camo and How It Is Different From Printed Camo

Camo wraps come in two kinds. Printed camo is a pattern such as woodland or digital camo printed onto wrap film by a print shop. Textured camo has the pattern formed in the film itself. Wrapteck sells one camo film, 3D Ghost Camouflage: a black, tone on tone camo with a raised texture you can feel, from $160 for a 6 m roll.

We will be straight with you. If you want green woodland, desert or a custom printed pattern, a local print shop is the right call, because we do not sell printed camo. If you want a stealthy camo that looks like part of the car, keep reading.

Key facts

  • Wrapteck sells one camo film: the 3D Ghost Camouflage Car Wrap in Carbon Black.

  • The film is listed for cars, motorcycles, boats and other smooth surfaces.
  • A full small car typically needs around 18 m of vinyl, and most sedans, coupes and SUVs are safer with 23 m.

What is ghost camo, and how is it different from printed camo?

Military camouflage works by breaking up an outline with a strongly contrasting disruptive pattern. Printed camo wraps borrow that idea in full color. Ghost camo turns the contrast down: dark shapes on a dark base, so the pattern shows up as light moves across it.

The product page describes it as a subtle, tactile finish up close and a bold statement from across the lot, with a pattern that shifts as you walk around the car.

What does 3D Ghost Camo look like on a car?

The photo at the top of this post is a Mercedes coupe in our 3D Ghost Camouflage. On the trunk and rear quarter you can see how the camo shapes fade in and out with the light rather than jumping out like a printed pattern.

The film is a polymeric double cast vinyl with a super stretch formula, which the product page says wraps tight curves, body lines and recesses. It is also fully reversible: run it for a season, peel it back and go back to your original paint.

Can you get camo wraps for trucks?

Yes. Ghost camo suits trucks and off road builds well, and the product page lists it for cars, motorcycles and boats too. A truck simply needs more film than a car. Measure the panels before you order, and use our vinyl wrap size guide to plan lengths and the buffer to add.

Order the full length in one go. Buying it all at once keeps every panel from the same batch.

Is a camo wrap easy to install yourself?

The product page is honest about this: the pressure sensitive adhesive makes panels and accents very DIY friendly, and a professional installer is the safest route for a full car. The low viscosity air release adhesive lets you reposition while you work and resists lifting once it is down, and you can install it dry or wet.

A good first project is a hood, roof or mirror caps. Seams show on a patterned film, so plan where panels meet before you cut. When you wash it, rinse well and use a soft mitt so dirt does not sit in the texture.

What other textured wraps give a similar look?

If you like camo because it is stealthy and textured, you have more options than the one camo film. These sit in the same carbon fiber and textured wrap collection:

Our carbon fiber wrap guide compares every textured carbon film. If you want stealth with no pattern at all, a plain finish from the matte vinyl collection does it, and our matte black wrap guide covers care.

Which camo wrap should you pick?

  • Pick 3D Ghost Camo if you want a dark, textured camo that stays subtle and peels off when you are done.
  • Pick printed camo from a print shop if you want a specific color pattern like woodland, desert or digital.
  • Pick forged carbon if you like a random pattern but want it to read as carbon, not camo.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell green or desert camo wraps?

No. Our only camo film is the 3D Ghost Camouflage in Carbon Black. For green woodland, desert or digital camo, a wrap print shop can print the pattern for you.

Is 3D Ghost Camo textured?

Yes. The pattern is raised so you can feel it, rather than a flat printed graphic. It catches the light differently as you walk around the car.

How much camo wrap do I need?

A full small car typically needs around 18 m of 1.52 m wide vinyl, and most sedans, coupes and SUVs are safer with 23 m. Trucks need more, so measure first.

Can a camo wrap be removed?

Yes. The product page describes the 3D Ghost Camouflage as reversible, so you can peel it back and return to your original surface.
