Color PPF is paint protection film with the color built in, so it changes the look and protects the paint in one layer. It comes in shorter cuts, which makes it easier to buy just what a hood or a set of mirrors needs.

That is the standard color tier, which covers 48 of the 49 films in our color paint protection film collection. Textured films cost a little more: 5D Black Carbon Fiber PPF runs $280 for 3 m up to $990 for 15 m. 33 of the 49 are sold in both wet apply and dry apply versions at the same price.

What does partial PPF cost compared to a full car?

You do not have to cover everything. Edmunds notes that you can protect only the high-impact areas, and that choice sets most of your cost. Covering the front bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors takes far less film and far fewer hours than doing every panel.

For a DIY partial job, color PPF is the easy buy because of the 3 m and 6 m cuts. Clear PPF only comes in full 15 m rolls, so plan to use the leftover on more panels later. Measure your panels, add some extra for trimming, and pick the cut that covers it.

Is DIY PPF worth the savings?

If you install it yourself, the film is close to your whole bill, plus a squeegee, slip solution and a sharp blade. That is the appeal. The honest part is that PPF takes patience: clear film is a wet install and every trapped speck of dust shows.
